DARK WOODS
Mixes the splendor of Mother Nature with artisans, theatre gypsies, performers and storytellers in an revitalizing outdoor setting
Evil Dead The Musical opens June 22, 2012. Reefer Madness and return with the award-winning Experience Haunted Attraction will open in September.
We are busy working on a new project for Dark Woods. Check back for updates
WHAT IS A STORY PARK?
Dark Woods is the first known "story" park. Everything you can do, see or watch is story-based
We entertain through stories! Dark Woods features Outdoor Theatre, Haunted Attractions, Street Performers, Artisans and Architecture to tell stories throughout the year
All of our stories are told in themed lands across 130 acres of natural land
Select an area to view the attractions, entertainment, dining and shopping opportunities in each
ENTERTAINMENT
Dark Woods has several stages throughout the property that feature full-length professional produced shows throughout our season
Additionally, we have smaller stages in each of the lands that are kept full of street performers, storytellers, vocal groups, musical revues and comedians
On select evenings we run our pre-show Gypsy Caravan parade through the Minstrel Square on the way to the theatre where your show is playing

DARK WOODS is the home of the World's only outdoor annual production of Evil Dead The Musical. We began in 2002 as a haunted attraction. Specializing in special effects and strong visuals, we were able to tell a complete story from beginning to end, instead of using powertools, gore and rubber monsters to shock our audience into being scared
After a few years, we realized our connection to theatre and added an outdoor stage to the estate. While those first few shows were almost agony to sit through, we finally found our niche with Evil Dead The Musical and will make it a tradition in Ostrander Ohio
In 2012, we will open Dark Woods at our new home located just a short distance away from The Schmitter Estate with Evil Dead The Musical and The Experience Haunted Attraction, with a larger project opening in Fall 2012

Based on Sam Raimis 80s cult classic films, EVIL DEAD tells the tale of 5 college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. And although it may sound like a horror, it's not! The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit. EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL unearths the old familiar story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive.

Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. You won't be able to resist the spoofy fun of REEFER MADNESS. REEFER MADNESS is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary. It contains adult humor, religious parody, and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness
